I just hate drinking a wine and then not writing about it, so I am about 4 bottles behind. Yes, it is because its summer and there are a thousand things going on. Last week after we finished wine tasting at the Bernardus tasting room in Carmel Valley Village, we headed to our room at Asilomar to change and hit one more day of beach bumming. We took another meat, cheese and goody basket to the beach. It was about 6pm when we got to the beach and noticed the weather was just weird from the day before. It was sunny out but we could see clouds closing in and blocking out the sun.
We were not in a hurry to eat or drink our wine but sort of felt like the weather was distracting how fast we were to eat and drink our wine. We opened our wine to pair with our cheese. Any other time we probably would have chose something else but this just seemed right. The wind was picking up and the smell of the ocean slightly over powering the smell of the wine a little. The wine of the night was a “…” 2003 Markham Cab we paired this again with hard salami, 3 different types of cheese, hot peppercini peppers, yes, of course some Grey Pupon mustard, tomato and basil crackers and hoped our moment would over power the incoming weather.
So here is the deal, I would have to have had mega super powers to pick up all the aromas, tastes & tannins with what was going on around us. Here is what we can tell you. We both liked this wine even thought it would have paired better with a juicy steak. The weather got out of control and forced us from our beach setting. However, not before we drank our wine. We liked this wine and will buy it again.
Go check out the site for more info and an in depth explanation of this wine. http://www.markhamvineyards.com/. I think we picked this up in pebble beach for about $22.00. You may be able to find it cheaper near you. The Markham site lists it for around $30.00 prior to shipping it to you, seems like we got a bargain.
