There are many advantages of having a cellar in our houses. One can always walk into the cellar and select a superbly matured wine whenever he feels like a drink or whenever we are hosting guests. This is different from having to make a quick drive to the wine sellers to buy a bottle.

Exactly where should one have the cellar located? In many houses, the cellar is located in an underground room. This is however not a must. A cellar can be a simple room under your staircase or in the kitchen. What matters is that it is dark enough to store the wine.

A cellar should have its features designed by an innovator. A good one should be able to come up with the characteristics of the walls, all the moldings and have the extra features such as a wine tasting table made.

The benefit of having a cellar underground traditionally was to keep the temperatures at the right level. There was also adequate flow of air and humidity was kept at bay. The atmosphere down there was cool and dry. Good temperature was between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

The wine in the cellar will be interfered with if the temperature is fluctuating too often. Therefore, we should ensure that the temperature is stable throughout.

Wine will mature at the best speed if it is in warm conditions. However, if the temperatures are too extreme, the wine will be spoilt.

The humidity in the cellar should rhyme with the type of wine in question. One should have in mind that the temperature conditions should be jus right to let the wine age at the right speed. The wine type matters a lot.
