Good Selection of Christmas Wines

You might feel overwhelmed by the vast selection of wines available to choose from for a Christmas party or dinner. Let me try to break down the wine selection process a little bit. When you pick a suitable wine for a party with a group of friends; cheap Champagne would do it, whereas a more formal Christmas party with family and in-laws’ would require something more along the lines of classic berry fruit Bourgogne Pinot. The selection of Christmas wine is thus to be based on the type of event and the impression one wants to make. You therefore still have a great number of wines to choose from, but without putting your foot in it, so to speak.

There are different opinions of what type of wine to choose for Christmas events. In a large group of people – red wines seems to reflect the festive spirit of Christmas holidays. There are some that prefer a suitable selection of white wines for Christmas dinner, where the clean, ripe and elegant stylish Bourgogne Chardonnay is one good example.

When it comes to select drinks for regular Christmas parties; Chardonnay is a safe bet in white wines. Chardonnay is ideally combined with poultry and seafood dishes, like pork, lobsters, and scallops. South African Chardonnays offer good value for money. Common flavors are fruity melon, apple, lemon, tangerine, and buttered oak. In spite of its high profile, Chardonnay is not expensive and you could get a bottle of great tasting wine without spending too much. Chardonnay wines are just perfect for a dinner and karaoke party. The lightless of Chardonnay makes it the perfect complement to a perfect social happening.

A fine Christmas wine gift for a family dinner is Pinot Noir wines. Pinot wines are round and crispy because of the combinations of ethereal fruit, floral perfume and effortless grace oaks. This capricious grape inspires the true wine lover. Pinot Noir and Blanc are both suitable on any Christmas dinner table course regardless there is fish or meat on the menu. The Pinot wines are further ideal for the entres as well as a perfect complement for the cheeseboard.

Sparkling wines or Champagne is a natural choice to impress and memorize festive Christmas occasions. Test sparkling wine or Champagne to choose for a Christmas party one might argue about, but one thing is for sure; Champagne embodies Christmas like no other wine, hence it is my choice for the perfect Christmas wine. The light bodied sparkling wines from Italy, Prosecco wines, might be a very close contender with its sophisticated floral nose.

No doubt, a sensible selection of wines adds to the Christmas spirit. There are great many choices of wines to make any Christmas dinner party an unforgettable event by perfectly complementing the food served and keeping the conversation vivid.

  1. James Wilson says:

The best option for Christmas wines, or wines at any time is to buy early and keep it well. What ever the wine or where it is stored, it should be recorded in Vinote Cellar, where every wine can be tracked, maintaining an accurate inventory no matter how much wine is consumed.
