Chocolate chip cookies are one of Americas most popular snacks. There is nothing better than a fresh baked hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookie with a cold glass of milk. I am going to give you some tips to making this already fantastic cookie even better. I know most of you are thinking “Can it get any better?”. The answer is yes it can and I’m going to tell you how.
The first tip is to find the right chocolate. There are many types of chocolate to choose from and it may be a good idea to experiment with them. You can try making your chocolate chips cookies with large chips of chocolate, chocolate chunks, or M&Ms candy. Some people even like to cut up chocolate candy bars and put them in their cookies. Before you decide on the chocolate for your cookies you should taste each kind.
Chocolate has very different tastes when you purchase the different types and quality available. There is semisweet chocolate, milk chocolate, dark and white chocolate to choose from. Having the family help out with the tasting is always a good idea. My family certainly would not mind sampling the chocolate and I’m guessing yours want either.
You could also choose to do a combination of chocolate in your cookies. You should try tasting different pieces of chocolate together and see if you find some that taste good together. Sampling chocolate can be a lot of fun and you and your family will have some quality time together. After tasting all the chocolate you may have some hyper children to tend with though.
You will need to decide whether you will use butter, shortening, or margarine. To do this you could either experiment with it or use the one you normally prefer. People tend to stick to what they prefer and they usually have a preference between these three. Be sure to use room temperature butter because cold and melted butter changes the results of the cookie.
Butter also should be unsalted if this is what you choose to use in your batter. Also you have to find a sugar. Most recipes will call for you to use granulated sugar but you could try dark or either light brown sugar. This gives the cookie a completely new taste. For chewier cookies you can try corn syrup. For a fresh tasting cookie use real vanilla extract and also fresh eggs.
Cookie sheets will determine how the chocolate chips cookies cook. Shiny cookie sheets help prevent burning or browning too quickly. If your cookie sheet is thin and metal you need to be careful of burning the cookies. Preheat your oven for twenty minutes before using it. This keeps the temperature even so that your cookies cook evenly.
Do not add your chocolate until everything else is mixed thoroughly. If you add your chocolate too soon it will start to melt as you mix it all together. When adding your chocolate you should stir by hand. If you use an electric mixer it can blend the chocolate in with the batter and you will just have chocolate cookies instead of chocolate chip cookies. These are just a few tips for great chocolate chip cookies. I’m sure you can come up with a few on your own. So go enjoy some cookies and milk.
