The internet has just exploded in size over the past few years and now there are so many websites to choose from it is hard to know where to go when you need to buy something. The first place that most people will start is Google, they are good at helping you find relevant websites and then you can browse through the results they give you and pick thaw sites with the best prices from there, but there should be more to your decision that just price.
The security of the website is one big concern that I always have, do they have the proper systems in place to do all they can to protect your transaction details and all the details you enter? Or is it going to be open for pretty much anyone to go in and steal? As a good example of the kind of security you might find on some websites then once when I was about to place an order I found all the credit card details etc of the last person to order still on the order form!
That is why now I tend to go to Amazon for anything I order online, particularly my pots and pans, they have everything you need from copper cookware sets through to the latest in multi-layered stainless steel sets. With Amazon then you know they have the best security in place to protect your details, and often they have the best prices too and reviews from customers so you know how good the item is, so most of the time there is no need to shop elsewhere. However it is always prudent to shop around so once you have the price from Amazon then head to sites like Cooking.com to see how much they sell the items for, or even the large comparison sites like PriceGrabber.com which show you the different price at various sites.
Don’t leave it there either, make sure you do use Google to find what kind of price other websites are offering the product at. When you are trying to work out who offers the best deal though please remember that Amazon offers free shipping on all the items they stock (not third party vendors, just theirs) and most other websites don’t, so you need to factor that in before you choose a winner.
If you finally decide that you do want to order from the website of a relatively small company then you need to take a few steps to make sure it is safe to order from. First of all check their contact page for some company details, you should find a physical address plus a phone number just in case you have problems. The second thing to check for is that whenever they want you to enter details that they are using a secure connection, to check then look at the url at the top of your browser when they are asking for details, if it says https instead of just http at the start of the url then that is a secure connection. That doesn’t mean your order will go through without a hitch and they will protect your details, but it increases the chance of it happening, and you know if a website fails one of those stages then you probably don’t want to start handing any money over to them.
