If it has been a while since you last shopped for a microwave oven, you may still think that they are only useful for warming or defrosting of foods. If so, it is time for you to take a whole new look at microwave ovens.

Many of the early models of microwave ovens were not suitable to do much cooking. They were great at defrosting mats or reheating meals. You could even get away with cooking a hot dog in one. However, try to cook a chicken breast in one and you came up with a misshapen white hockey puck. It was rubbery, tough and tasteless.

If you walk down the microwave aisle today, you will see that they offer much more. Microwave ovens are now designed to cook an entire dinner. You can have browned meats that are crispy on the outside, vegetables that are still moist and a flakey crust desert all cooked in a new microwave.

You will not find these features in the bottom end microwaves, but if you are willing to spend about one hundred dollars more, you can get a model with all the features. That extra money will actually save you more money in the end. If you use the microwave for more cooking and the oven in your range less, you should see substantial savings each month on your power bill. The savings should pay back the initial cost in just a few months.

First you will want to decide on either the countertop model or the over the stove model. If you have enough counter space, countertop models cost less and are more convenient. They are also available with the biggest selection of features and options.

Over the stove models work great in small kitchens. While there is a greater initial cost and some require professional installation, many of these models have the added feature of the range hood exhaust. If you do not have a duct to the outside, these hoods can be vented inside the house. While the exhaust fans are less effective than a traditional range hood, most people find that they do a very adequate job at removing cooking smells and smoke from the house.

Some microwaves offer a convection oven combination feature that comes in handy when cooking a full meal. Hot air is circulated around food in order to speed up the cooking and give the food a crispy crust. Convection cooking is perfect for baked goods as well as roasting meats. Other models use a quartz or halogen heating light in the microwave that browns food when needed.

Another feature that is becoming popular is the sensor cooking. This feature senses infrared heat or steam off the food to know when the food is done as well as when the oven should turn off. This feature may be especially helpful to children learning to cook in a microwave.

If you are still trapped in 1980 with your microwave and using it only for reheating or leftovers, then it is time that you take a walk down the appliance aisle and find the new features that are offered in microwave ovens. You should also get rid of those polyester pants too.

Reese Cook is a microwave oven expert. She has done plenty of research on microwave ovens. She has a microwave oven reviews blog where you can find Panasonic microwave reviews and Sharp microwave reviews.

People have many kind of interests, whilst some like reading, writing, listening to music, still some like cooking. Cooking is a great way of passing time, especially if you have children. Children love to bake and help their parents. Although some sponge cakes are made without eggs, most sponge cakes need them.

When shopping for ingredients to make a cake it usually involves looking at different types of eggs. It can be very confusing because each box seems to say something different. There might be free range, battery, organic, barn and more. What exactly do these classifications mean? Although they mean something different they usually describe the way the chicken has been kept. Free range means that the chicken has had free range of the fields whereas battery keep the chicken in very tight enclosures.

I have had a lot of fun baking cakes using eggs. It is a delightful time to spend together as a family. My little girl loves to see the results when the cake comes out of the oven. Baking does not have to end after the sponge comes out of the cooker either. You can use many decorating techniques such as icing and cake decorations.

If you are inventive there is a lot that you can do to make a sponge look more appetising. Many people who love baking open up their own businesses and do designer cakes for birthdays and other special occasions. These professionals seem to know the healthy recipe to make the perfect sponge.

Eggs help make the cake softer and lighter. They need to be beaten before placing in the cake with flour, sugar and butter. Often in baking it is the fat that is important and is used when describing the process used to bake the cake. Creaming is the term used when butter and sugar are blended together, producing a creamy texture.

Rubbing in is the method where flour is rubbed into the fat and is the easiest way of making sponge cake. Boil and bake is probably one of the most straightforward ways and is where the butter and milk are boiled together then flour is added. All in one is where all ingredients are blended together to form the batter for the cake.

Sponge cake is often used to form a base for various types of cake and dessert. Sponge cakes can be cooked in a lot of varying ways, this gives them a whole new flavour every time they are baked in a new way. Sponge cake can be classified into 3 main categories: Basic sponge, egg-less sponge and chocolate sponge.

If you are concerned about your health then there are different methods that can be used. Lower fat variations of baking can be tricky because it is completely different to cooking fuller fat versions. Reduced fat butter is far different than ordinary butter because it bakes differently. Lower fat butter reacts more sensitively towards things like over cooking, over blending, different ingredients and other factors.

The protein that egg whites contain provide a lot of strength for batter or dough, this makes it rise and not fall when it is put in the oven. Gluten makes the batter stronger, the more the batter is blended. When baking the precise blend of ingredients and skills are needed to ensure the perfect cake is made.

As you can see, eggs are a staple ingredient in the breakfasts of people throughout the world. Many healthy recipes stem from this simple ingredient.

When is the last time you spent any real time in the kitchen preparing a big dinner? Back in the old days, a meal on the table meant hours and hours of preparation. Who has time for that anymore? In most households there is no one home all day to take over that chore. However, many of us long to provide some good meals made from scratch for our hungry families. Can this be accomplished? Perhaps if we choose one food item on tonight’s menu and make it with our own little hands. How about homemade biscuits?

Biscuits made from scratch are extremely kid-friendly and fuss-free! After throwing just a few simple ingredients into a bowl, you can get your kids involved by having them mix the dough with their hands. Because the dough doesn’t need a lot of attention, even the most distracted little one will be done mixing before they lose their patience with the task!

Homemade biscuit recipes usually call for only four or five basic ingredients. You’ll use, of course, flour, baking powder, and salt, with some kind of shortening, oil, and milk. Be sure to use a good, heavy mixing bowl. Just measure everything into the bowl and you’ll be ready to mix and get the dough ready to roll!

Choose a large surface to work from, someplace that is easy to reach for everyone. Take a little flour and sprinkle over the clean surface. Then place your dough on top. You can use a pastry rolling pin on the dough but flattening the dough by hand will work just as well.

You can choose just about any circular object you want to cut out the biscuits. If you are involving the kids, be sure to choose something that’s safe for them – like a clean soup can or such. You can use a real biscuit cutter, of course, if you have one. Even a regular water glass would work. Take your biscuit cutter, dip it in a little flour to keep the dough from sticking, push down on the dough, give a little twist, and pull back. Your biscuit should be all ready to plop out onto your baking sheet.

Don’t forget to get your oven heating before you finish cutting out your biscuits. You’ll want a fully preheated hot oven. Once you have your biscuits cut out and arranged on a baking sheet, then all you have to do is watch them turn a beautiful golden brown.

This whole process of making the dough, rolling it out, cutting out the biscuits, and baking them takes only about twenty minutes total. Even in a very busy household, most folks can squeeze in a few extra minutes preparing dinner if they know the results are hot, buttery biscuits!

You’ve been making quick and easy meals for so long now, don’t you long for one special old fashioned homemade touch to your meal? It only takes a couple ingredients and a few minutes to whip up a batch of wonderfully nostalgic homemade biscuits from scratch. Your meal will look like it took hours to prepare, when all it took was love!

Nothing beats hot, buttery homemade biscuits on the dinner table! While you’ve got the oven heating, check out all the other homemade recipes for ideas how to make your meals feel like home.
